Life without obstacles or failures is as good as being dead. All of us, at some time or other, are plagued by ill health, unemployment, financial woes, relationship problems, accidents, misfortunes...How we handle them determines how good we are as managers and leaders.
The weak crumble when the odds stock up and surrender even before attempting to overcome obstacles. Successful managers view them as challenges and rise against all odds. They not merely survive the adversity, but thrive on it.
Managing Failure
The test of a human being lies in accepting failure and keeping on attempting until success is achieved. Once upon a time a brave king had to fight against a large army, but he was defeated. He ran for his life and took shelter in a forest cave. He was, his courage having left him, blankly gazing at the grills of the cave. An interesting sight captured his attention.
A spider was trying to weave a web across the ceiling. As the insect crawled up, a thread of the web broke and the spider fell down. But it did not give up. After more attempts it completed the web.
This boosted the morale of the defeated king. He came out of jungle, collected his soldiers and fought the enemy’s large army several times and ultimately regained his kingdom. He was Robert Bruce.
