Education, wealth and courage are important in a man’s life. He may have them in plenty, moderation or small measure. But, above all, devotion to God (Isvara Bhakti) is most important. If it is not there, all other acquisitions are of little use. Only hardships and sorrow will prevail.

We see this in many ways. Devotion to God manifests in several forms--remembering him, singing his praise, worshipping him, having the attitude of a servant, and so on. Devotion by itself is a great asset.
What else is required for one who has bhakti in full measure? God will bestow grace and keep him free of wants.
The vicissitudes of pleasure and pain will not affect his mind. On the other hand, one devoid of devotion, however proficient, will not be free from distress and poverty.

God is witness consciousness to all living beings and bestows proper rewards for their karmas. One can surrender to God in any form. If people understand this well and give primary importance to
devotion and perform their prescribed karmas, they all can live in peace
