Sri Sarasvati

The Vedas adore Sri Sarasvati as the V ak Devi (Goddess of Learning), as a river goddess and as the great Mother. She is the giver of all vidya and Brahma Jnana . She is the only Goddess to be sung in all the four Vedas.

The Puranas give different accounts of the origin of Sarasvati. Whatever they are, in Hindu mythology and culture the Goddess occupies a prominent position. She is considered the presiding deity of learning and all trades. Though Navaratri is a festival extolling all aspects of Sakti, it culminates with tributes to Sarasvati, when all books and tools of trade are worshipped as symbols of Sarasvati.

At Sringeri, Sri Sarasvati is installed in the form of Sharada. Adi Sankara and the galaxy of peethadhipatis have extolled her greatness in several slokas .
