Sri Durga

In the Rg Veda , the Taittiriya Upanishad , the Devi Upanishad and the Devi Purana , the significance of the word, Durga, is explained as on who rescues her devotees in times of distress and despondency. In the Durga Saptasati , she is adored as Durga who, by the boat of compassion, ferries us across the ocean of samsara which is difficult to cross.

The Durga Saptasati , forming part of the Markandeya Purana , narrates how she assumed the role of Kali.
